1. Take stock before making a basket
Write down what you already have. Include ordinary things: a bag, washable towels, drawer space and a basket for laundry. Ask family what they hoped to give you before buying duplicates. Choose one place to keep your list so you are not juggling screenshots and half-finished shopping baskets.
2. Separate supplies from decisions
Clothes and cloths are shopping choices. Sleep, transport and feeding also involve suitability and safety decisions. Keep those on a separate list to discuss with your maternity team or health visitor. A stylish listing and a large number of reviews do not replace the manufacturer’s instructions or current guidance.
3. Prepare the next task
Imagine a nappy change, changing a wet outfit or leaving the house. What do you need within reach? What needs washing afterwards? Those ordinary moments tell you more about useful storage and spares than a long list of fashionable accessories.
4. Buy the gaps, then pause
Once you have the basics arranged, give yourself permission to wait. You can learn which size fits, how often you wash and what your daily routine feels like before making bigger orders. Keep packaging, instructions and receipts organised so checks and returns are straightforward.
